1. Clean it
Before doing anything make sure that you clean your garage roller door. The best method is to employ a hose with a spray nozzle attachment, once you have done this wipe over the entire garage roller door with a damp cloth. This will ensure that all dust, grime and dirt if off your garage door.
2. Scrub it
The next step is to use a coarse scouring sponge and a strong detergent to scrub your garage roller door. Not only will this remove any dirt that has managed to stay on and also cause the surface of your garage roller door to become extremely rough. Although this may not seem immediately attractive it will enable to new paint to stick to your garage door and therefore not chip or flake off.
3. Rinse it
Once this has been done, rinse the garage roller door once again. This will ensure that no detergent is left on the door, which could potentially react with the paint. After you have sufficiently rinsed your garage roller door, allow it to dry.
4. Prime it
It is extremely advisable to use a primer base coat before applying the main coat to your garage roller door. The best type of paint to use is acrylic as due to the nature of this paint it is able to bend once dry. This is ideal due to the movement your garage door will be making every time it opens and closes.
Make sure that you stir the paint with a large wooden stick before pouring the paint into a spray gun. This will guarantee that the paint is of an even consistency and colour.
5. Paint it
Use a spray gun rather than a brush as this will allow for an even and smooth application without any brush strokes. Ensure that you use large sweeping strokes when spraying the paint.
Allow for up to 24 hours for your base coat to dry, this will depend upon the brand of paint you have chosen to use and should be stipulated on the tin.
6. Colour it
Once your base coat is dry you are able to apply your final colour coat. Clean out the spray gun so your chosen colour is not impaired is anyway.
The method of applying your final coat is exactly the same as applying the base coat. However, once you have applied your first layer of paint, allow it to fully dry and then decide whether or not you would like to apply a second coat to darken the colour

How to dispose of your garage door!
Getting a new garage roller door can be quite exciting. Not only can it enhance the appearance of your home but also enhance the usage of your garage. However, the problem is what to do with your old garage roller door. Find below a list of suggestions for how to dispose of your garage roller door.
1. Get it collected
Often scrap dealers will come and collect your scrap and if it is of any worth, they shall give you some money for it. However, some companies you will have to take your garage roller door to the scrap yard yourself, but with such a large object this can be very difficult if your vehicle is small.
Avoid this hassle by arranging for your local council to come and collect your old garage roller door. You can make the appointment online and often your collection will be free if you only have one every three months, however if it is more frequent than this you will often incur a charge.
Sometimes your new garage roller door supplier will take away your old garage door for you. It is worth asking when you purchase your new door as this will be a very easy and simple option.
2. Sell it
Even though you may not want your current garage roller door, someone else might. Place an advert in your local newspaper and online detailing colour, size etc. You can either give it away for free or charge a small price; it is totally up to you.
However, only attempt to sell your old garage roller door if it is in a suitable condition. If it is covered in scratches and dents then chances are selling it is the wrong option for you. But, if you are only changing your garage roller door because you are fed up with the colour, and it is still in good condition then this will be a very good choice for you.
Also, when considering selling your garage roller door, ensure you still have the installation instructions and all the little bits and pieces, such as screws and nails.
3. Recycle it
If your old garage door is wooden, break it up and utilise the other things such as building etc. If your old garage was a roller door was made of metal such as steel or aluminium, it can easily make for an outdoor shelter for either animals or people.

Four insane ways of jazzing up your garage door
Garage roller shutter doors can be one of the most boring subjects to talk about. They are a mundane part of everyday life, bland and a necessity rather than an extravagance. But why not jazz up your garage roller shutter door with a crazy design? Here are some ideas of how you can spice up garage roller shutter doors:
1. Animal print
Not many people see their garage roller shutter doors as a canvas for expressing their personalities but why not? Show your wild side by painting an animal print across the entire surface area. This will both create a talking point for guests and neighbours but also give people an insight into your individuality and personality.
However, as this is not the normal design for garage roller shutter doors you may have to pay for someone to come and do this for you. It would only look good if it was professionally done.
2. Stripes
Painting stripes across garage roller shutter doors does not have to look as ridiculous as it may sound. They could vary to create patterns and jazzy designs rather than alternate colours at regular intervals. Opting for complimentary colours or those of your football team or national flag can provide the basis of a very creative design.
An abstract design could also look very appealing on garage roller shutter doors. However this will need to be done by a professional company in order to provide the sharp crisp lines of the stripes.
3. Weather-proof canvas
It is now possible to obtain weather resistant posters that attach onto garage roller shutter doors. These can have any picture or photograph you decide, however a family portrait would give a very personal feel to your garage door.
You could also invest in a few of these canvases allowing you to alternate between different images, which could correspond with the seasons, holidays or even family members birthdays.
4. Graffiti design
A very cool trend beginning to hit garage roller shutter doors is graffiti designs. Professional graffiti artists are very talented and creative individuals who, when given a theme or idea, are able to produce some beautiful bespoke pieces of art.
Applying this technique to garage roller shutter doors will create some very unique and stunning garage doors. However, you must be careful that the artist presents you with a template idea before letting them loose on the actual door.
